Urdu Press Club organised a Ghazal evening by Janiva Roy, a popular singer from Calcutta (now Kolkatta). Janiva has a beautiful voice with nice texture suitable for playback singing. Ms. Roy born in Calcutta, learnt Hindustani classical music from Ustad Mashur Khan. She has a unique, silky golden voice with good command over Urdu pronunciation and diction. She sings ghazals with indepth understanding of Urdu poetry, embellished with soulful expressions. At 24, Janiva is nothing short of being prodigious. She has 25 Hindi albums to her credit in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Assamese and Santhali.

Urdu Press Club has played a significant role in the promotion of Urdu language and literature and has been engaged in organising many symposiums, mushaira, seminars, conferences and debates, on different topics since many years, all over India.

Mr. Tariq Faizi, General Secretary of Urdu Press Club has played a key role in organising the evening. The event is to give a public platform to every talented but lesser known artistes.

The ghazal evening was attended by noted lyricist Mr.Jalees Sherwani and renowned classical singer Pt.Ajay Pohankar, poet Kaleem Asar, PRO Pritam Sharma, PRO Amar Nath, among others.
