Barry John is an internationally renowned actor,director,designer,writer and teacher. Born and educated in the U.K, he has lived and worked in India since 1968. He was the Founder – Director of Theatre Action Group from 1973 to 1999, Delhi's most acclaimed company, and instrumental in the success of many of its members. Siddharth Basu, Mira Nair, Lillette Dubey, Divya Seth, Pamella Rooks, Shah Rukh Khan and Manoj Bajpai, most notably.

He was on the faculty of the National School of Drama from 1977 to 1980, teaching and directing young actors such as Anupam Kher, Pankaj Kapoor, Anu Kapoor, Surekha Sikri and Manohar Singh. He has also pioneered the movements towards an acceptance of Drama Therapy in working with disable and deprived people. He has conducted training workshops in many parts of the country for numerous theatre companies and institutions. He himself has acted in the films Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Massey Shahib, Gandhi, Tamas, Miss Beatty,s Children, Shaheed Udham Singh, In Othello, The Last Viceroy and The Frontier Gandhi.

Barry John has also acted in the internationally acclaimed play Othello, A Play in Black and White. He has a national award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi and awards from the Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Delhi Natya Sangh. The Barry John Acting Studio offers a wide range of courses and workshops that answer to the educational needs of both beginning and experienced professional actors, as well as writers,directors,designers and teachers. Barry John is one of the few trained teachers of Drama in the country, and with almost forty years of experienced at the highest levels, he has evolved his own unique system of training that is highly sought after.
