Legendary Bollywood filmmaker/producer/director Prakash Mehra died at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri Mumbai this morning. Living legend Amitabh Bachchan got his first major break in Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer that created the 'angry young man' identity for him. They also did many hugely successful films like Lawaris, Namak Halal and Muqaddar Ka Sikander. Amitji visited the hospital this morning but could not talk as Prakashji was in the ICU on a ventilator. We pray for the eternal peace for the departed soul.

Prakash Mehra started in the late 1950s as a production controller. In 1968, he directed Shashi Kapoor who played a double role in Haseena Maan Jayegi. This was followed by the 1971 hit Mela starring the Khan brothers (Feroz Khan and Sanjay Khan) together. In 1973, he produced and directed Zanjeer.
