Producer, Director & Writer OP Dutta passed away due to pneumonia on February 9. Friends and people from the film fraternity came to pay their condolences at his chautha held at ISKON temple on February 12.

Dutta started his career as a director in 1948 with Pyaar Ki Jeet followed by a number of films including Surajmukhi (1950), Ek Nazar (1951) and Malkin (1953). Later he wrote films such as Ghulami (1985), Hathyar (1989), Border (1997), Refugee (2000), LOC Kargil (2003) and Umrao Jaan (2006) for his son director JP Dutta.


O.P. Dutta (c. 1923 – 9 February 2012) was an Indian filmmaker and writer. He began his career way back in 1948. He also directed nine films until 1959, after which he got into writing dialogues, scripts and stories for Hindi films. He wrote most of the films for his director son, J.P. Dutta, notably Border and LOC Kargil. In 2001, he won the IIFA i.e. India International Film Academy Award and the Filmfare Award for the film Refugee. In 2006, he won a Lifetime Achievement Award from Filmfare.
