COUTURE FOR A CAUSE

‘Couture for a Cause” was organised by the students of Raffles Design International on 13th March, 2012. The show was aimed at supporting the social cause of helping children with special needs and funds raised was donated to LITTLE ANGELS School An NGO for children with learning disabilities (ADD, ADHD, autism etc.) Fashion-designer Aarti Vijay Gupta’s fashion show ‘Couture for a Cause” was held at ITC Maratha, Sahar, Sahar Airport Road, Andheri (East) was an interesting affair. The show was attended by theatre personalities like Gary Richardson, Actress Pooja Missra & Akruti Mistry, Model-Actor Abhisekh Awasthi and few other models walked for Aarti. The students of Raffles Design International, are organizing the event ‘Couture for a Cause,’ creating a platform for designers to showcase their collection. The show will be aimed at supporting the social cause of helping children with special needs and funds will be raised to donate to LITTLE ANGELS School, an NGO for children with learning disabilities (ADD, ADHD, autism etc.) As a part of the students’ Fashion Marketing and Management Degree, they came up with the idea of giving back to society by organizing a fashion show, which will be a unique blend of high fashion, glamour and philanthropy. The show will be held on Tuesday, 13th March, 2012, from 7 p.m. onwards, at ITC Maratha, Mumbai.

LITTLE ANGELS SCHOOL is a non-profit organization. The Founder and Director, Mr. Jahangir Afshari, opened the school in 2002 with just 3 teachers and 12 students, with a vision to provide holistic development opportunities to all children with special needs, envisioning a society with total acceptance of special needs, where equal opportunities exist for all people. This NGO was chosen for the event because it genuinely believes that every child is special and unique and should be treated normally. There is value in allowing children to learn, even if the task is not accomplished as quickly, efficiently or effectively.

The designers who will be exhibiting their collections are, as follows:

1. Sabah Khan
Sabah Khan is a graduate in Psychology and Fashion Design from INIFD; she made her debut at the LFW Gen Next with her collection ‘No Class’, for which she received immense appreciation from HRH Prince Charles. Post which she showcased her other line aptly titled ‘tuk-tuk’ at the Summer/Resort 2011 which was inspired by the rickshawwalas of the city. Her label draws inspiration from India’s colourful chaos and culture.
For the winter season Sabah displayed an extension of her signature work which uses colour blocking, patchwork, chequered linens, specially created prints and the inspiration she found at her workshop ‘Darzi’- Attribute which she showcased at the Lakme Fashion week Winter/Festive 2011.

Post that she recently displayed her collection ‘Back to the Skin’ in association with Tvach at the Pure London Catwalk in February 2012. She also displayed her range of organic clothing at the Biofach, Germany in February 2012.

Her collection, Tvach, is a global exquisite apparel brand which aims at creating ecological and skin friendly fashion that revolutionizes everyday dressing.

‘Back to the skin’ by Sabah Khan portrays the rebirth of basics. It revives the beauty of simplicity, the charm of the weave and the intricacy of fall of the fabric .By ‘Back to the skin’ we refer to going back to anything that is born of, or by nature and that preserves the sanctity of life. It has various interpretations i.e. right from life, roots, trees, touch, basics to a more intense emotional meaning of going back to be humble, rustic, being true and honest to oneself.

2. Forum Bhatt
An enchanting brand specializing in high end bridal wear, Forum B Couture is successfully run by designer FORUM BHATT, a 2009 NIFT graduate who won the ‘best student of the year’ award that persuaded her to work towards laying the foundations of her dreams. Starting off her career as an assistant stylist for MTV Teen Diva, Forum Bhatt has accomplished many styling projects including, Hero Honda ads, reality dance shows, MTV mini movies, style check and other shows. After acquiring firsthand experience for about a year and a half, Forum decided to start her own label and in October, 2010 Forum B Couture was launched. She supplied to various multi-designer boutiques all over India and specializes in custom-made bridal men’s and women’s wear.

The showcased collection envisions a potential space in Indian Ethnic Wear and is engaged in exploring the extremely rich and vibrant colours setting the mood for the upcoming festive season of Holi. With each ensemble, Forum strives to break the monotony of the stereotype & predictable ethnic wear. The collection comprises of well tailored Indian& Indo-western Suits (kalidaars, Kurtis, Sarees and lehengas with wide range of embroideries like zardozi, chikankari, aari work, kantha etc.) The focus is to have a balanced mix of interesting silhouettes with freshness involved in the design ideology-be it in terms of getting experimental with the colours, mix and match of fabrics or the modern approach towards recapitulating the good old texture development & embroidery techniques.

Currently, the brand supplies to stores like Re and Flaunt in Mumbai and other multi-designer boutiques nationally and internationally. The Label aims at creating a distinguished yet subtle & elegant ensemble while keeping connected to the tastes & aspirations of the customers. Apart from catering to its esteemed clients within its base area Juhu, it has a loyal clientele in south Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Dubai and London. Forum B Couture is germinating at a good pace and has been successful in making its mark & presence felt across.

3. Avesh Dadlani
Avesh Dadlani designs has excelled in haute couture and has the vision of establishing itself in the entire glamour industry, by providing bridal, semi formal, formal, casual and high end fashionable clothing and making a mark in the Indian Designing Industry and taking himself globally.
He has been moulded, educated, trained and established by INIFD (International Institute of Fashion Designing), Andheri (W). He has completed 3 years of thorough knowledge and education and is now ready to serve the industry. Apart from this, he has travelled globally and updated his knowledge in the fashion world.
His motive/aim is to create a label which reflects traditional & cultural values that blends with the modern outlook which showcases dreams and fantasy.
Ace Fashion Designer Avesh Dadlani has also launched his exquisite Flagship Store of bridal collection at Juhu Tara Road, Mumbai. Avesh Dadlani’s collection for today evening is something which reflects style, panache yet its very own ethnicity and elegance. It is not limited to the classic colours, but involves the contemporary shades and designs as well. The collection promises to advance the pursuit of female indulgence.

The day of Wedding is very special for everyone. A bride is treated like a princess and wedding is an occasion that changes her life as this day marks a new beginning for everyone. So it has to be special and extra-ordinary. Avesh’s bridal collection reflects an essence of freshness and a tinge of classic and contemporary colours; it is something the brides of today would like to befriend on their D-day. Avesh believes that his collection reflects the modern day Indian woman who are strong and independent, yet loves her culture and loves to get pampered on her special day.

He has organised and showcased collection for the Indian Navy Ball, 2011 in Gujarat. He showcased his new age bridal lehengas and saree by opening with a fashion show for Atif Aslam’s concert, Surat. He represented India at Thailand for International Flower Festival showcasing Indian Culture of Saree and Drapes. Mr. Dadlani has worked with international super models including, Ms. Argentina, Ms. Poland, Ms. Amsterdam, Ms. Bulgaria and Ms. Macedonia, as they had walked for Avesh Dadlani’s exquisite saree collection. He has styled and created Esha Koppikkar’s look for Subhash Ghai’s production. Avesh Dadlani showcased evening wear collection for world tourism day, 2010. He also won the Best Designer of the year 2010 award, by Lion’s Club.


4. Anand Gupta

He has been catering to European clients for more than 20 years launching his bridal wear in Indian market.

Introducing AnandG Bridals & Vivaha Pvt Ltd, one stop hub for
"Affaires du marriage” offering bridal & occasion wear, jewellery and Handling events.

The event’s team is led by Preeti Gupta and jewellery is handled by Harshita Gupta.

Anand Gupta is the brain behind the bridal wear and the company.
He trained and worked along with several International designers in New York & Italy. After returning to India, Anand established his own studio, production house.

Anand’s singularity lies in his ability to weave his intense passions into his work. His creations are very unique and have come down through decades. He has designed dresses for some of the eminent celebrities.

Anand launched Indian bridal wear in 2009 and its successes encouraged him to set up Anand G Bridals & Vivaha Pvt Ltd, which offers a bouquet of wedding services.

5. Aarti Gupta
B-Town’s coveted designer-cum-socialite Aarti Vijay Gupta, Renaissance lady of style and panache, is presenting her collection in association with Steelbird.
